The (Not Really) Guilt Free Christmas Biscuits

Christmas is all about food, and there's nothing like biscuits, Christmas style!

Being honest here, I really wanted just to make my own biscuits that didn't include a tonne of butter and all the rest. I started of with just a few ingredients, but the mixture was totally not coming together so then I added a few extra things to make it more ... well.. biscuit-like!

The Original Ingredients 
4oz self raising flour
4oz demera sugar
2oz oatmeal
2oz flaked almond
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The Additional Ingredients
2 teaspoons Golden Syrup
A couple spoons of egg white

What I Did
1.I basically threw in all the original ingredients into a bowl, stirred, and realised that I needed to stage an intervention!
2.I melted the golden syrup on the lowest heat on the hob for just enough time for it to become a water like consistency.
3. I added that to the mixture and rubbed it in with my fingers.
4. I added some of the egg whites left over and rubbed that in too.
4. I dusted a baking tray with flour.
5. I made small balls of the mixture and pushed them down slightly with a finger.
6. I popped them into the oven at 180 degrees for twenty minutes or until them were hard to touch.

What I Should Have Done
I probably should have melted the sugar which probably would have eliminated the need for the golden syrup.
Otherwise I would have just left out the sugar and just used the syrup.
Or maybe I should have used treacle instead golden syrup to add more Christmas-ness and a deeper colour.

I mean this really wasn't a proper recipe was it? Oh well, I tried!
